Guys, from where I live, dirt bikes arent popular and the mere fact that these bikes look different in size and shape than the normal motorcycle make store owners shake their heads swearing they havent got any parts but I refuse to accept. Compounding this is the language barrier (english close to none). I know most of these Chinese bikes have common parts and I hope you guys can bear with me for some clarification.

I have what I believe is a common/ordinary black CDI box with a 5 pin connector. It cuts off at a certain rpm limit and would like to replace it with at least a unit without the limiter. I know there are far more improvements than just one without the limiter and I see many here. Some with weird looking connectors but a few with the same 5-pin socket and the owners swear it wont match with mine.

Can anybody expound on CDI compatibility. I am looking to gain confidence that any aftermarket CDI with the same 5-pin socket will work.

Reading the box is of no use as it is sadly not in english. Unfortunately, popular brands such as Kitaco, etc.... arent found here....

Buying off the net is, of course, the best alternative but I would like to open up sourcing parts here mainly due to its price. An example is I recently found an identical copy of the 26mm Mikuni branded as Keihin selling for the equivalent of AUD10.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Where are you Located Redstar?

I've been through this Before. Chinese bikes Dont have Rev Limiters. You will Find no Upgrade by Buying One. Only if it is Takegawa, ADA, Or Kitaco as these have Modified Power Curves.

Please let us know where you are Located and Also post a Picture of your Bike.

The Keihin Is a very Good carb, and If it was a Copy of a Keihin for $10 I Would buy it. It sounds like your living in an Asian country and you will be able to source parts but will have difficulty doing so. Im sure I can help you get anything you need mate.

Linc, Scoot: You guys have been of enormous help and a source of great encouragement. My experience has all been in racing and rally cars having done that for many, many years and although 4stroke bikes can be similar, I'm what you can consider a greenhorn.

I am based in the land of the Chinese bikes. I dont see any here except the few among friends who share the passion for speed and mechanicals. For us, there's not much jumping of trail riding as we have the bikes to take us around the circuit (through the access road) where we all have our race teams set up (formula, touring or bike race teams). Needless to say, we have fun "developing" these toys.

Attached is a photo of my bike before I knew any better on what model to get. Well, in the beginning there was really not much of a choice. Two of these are in here together with 2 more which are AGB27's.

Redstar, It is a Standard Chinese Bike. It looks like a Loncin or Ducar 125cc Engine. A CDI Box will do nothing. If you want i could Give you some Emails of People located In China, That Do HP Parts, There Very Nice, And Supply alot of Companys Top Parts. Just PM me for Some Emails.

My Bros cdi carked it
He got a new genuine thumpster one .. many thumpsters have the cdi up under the seat , this is bad water got into his and screwed it . A tell tale sign of cdi falure is when timing is off. will back fire and idle iradicaly, and often takes a while to kick over.

Aftermarket CDI's are great... Different brands will perform different.. I myself had a TrailBikes CDI til it died the other week and i loved it, waiting on a replacement Kitaco unit... i dont like the stock CDI one bit and will keep it as a back up.

What ever you do dont get a BigGun exhaust unit... my mate has one and it didn't do much at all other than no rev limiter.

an exhaust with a rev limiter? What will they think of next!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry but i must have types it in such a way that you must a read it wrong.. The company that makes BIGGUN exhausts also makes a CDI unit and i rekon its a waiste of money.

Scott is right. These chinese cdi's don't have limiters, or if they do, it's beyond 13,000 revs.

if it seems/feels like it does have a rev limiter, i.e. it's going bahp, bahp, bahp at max revs then it might be the tuning of the carby... maybe

It could be a number of things, that is not to say you don't have a limited cdi. There could be particular bikes using a limited cdi. But the common one found on most current china bikes isn't limited.

Most bikes feel limited in stock form and actually are by the 'breathability' of the engine mostly. You start to open up those ports, have a valve job done, fit big bore exhaust and a cam. You'll find that thing will just keep on revvin to the point where you have to back off or grenade it.

Has anyone got a tacho on there bikes ??

I have and the bloody things are rev-limited !! It doesn't feel like its limited, and 8800rpm on these bikes sounds and feels like 12000+ but it ain't.

Believe what you want... Ive done pritty much everything to my bike over the last 2 years and i'm not going to run a stock CDI, my replacment kitaco CDI come in the mail today, so the makeshift stock unit is coming off again.

Like I said there could be limited chinese cdi's out there, especially on older bikes. But I know of a reputable guy who has dynoed every cdi out there in the same bike under the same conditions on the same day. He had to shut down the motor at 13,000 with the stock china cdi. Believe what you want.

I think it is just a matter of oppinion. But if yours breaks i would get the better one just incase.
