Different types of Lifan engines .
There are several types/variations of Lifan engines above 120 cc ! From what I've read - the yanks reckon the primary clutch (clutch up front on the crank = non kick start in gear) engines with the 20 mm countershaft have gearbox problems - possibly due to clutch drag from poorly adjusted clutches .
Engines with the clutch at the rear are called secondary clutch engines (clutch on the gearbox mainshaft = kick start in gear) and they are reported to be better engines .
4 up shifting transmissions are also claimed to shift much better than 1 down 3 up trannies . It's claimed that the 1 d 3 up's cop false neutrals on the downshifts and neutral is harder to find for some people .
There are primary clutch (non kick in gear) engines that are grey with the exact same big valve head and alloy finned cylinder as the grey kick in gear 125/127/138's and they have a 4 up shifting transmission . Maybe Mack or someone in the know who sells different types of Lifan engines can shed some light on how reliable the gearboxes are on these engines .
