how to adjust steering head bearings

i kant seem to get the steering head bearings to tighten up. there still seems to be movement back n forward? do i need new ones ???

are you loosening the top fork clamp bolts too? can be tricky sometimes..

loosen clamp stem nut
loosen top fork clamp bolts
tension stem bearings
tighten clamp stem nut and fork clamp bolts

problems i have come across is the top clamp not locating on the tension nut (under clamp) it has a step that the top clamp fits over...

now also i have to ask, are you just adjusting the stem bearing or have you upgraded something as well..

no havent up graded . they just had a little slop and thought i should nip em up b4 to much damaged occured.thanks i will give that a go . cheers. while im on the subject the cheep forks on the bike needed new oil . how much do they need i reckon they had approx 60 mill ea.lol cheap cooking oil lol.

if they had 60mil before id use that as a starting point. just keep adding oil till they feel nice..
