you have to have a second numberplate if you cars numberplate is not visible, same with extra lights
i doubt you'll be able to fit a towball to the bake of the bike carrier.
it would put a lot more force onto the towbar of the car.

the car with my crrent tow bar is rated to 160kgs on the ball, with a 100kg pitbike on there I would still have 60kgs to play with. My boat would have about 40kgs ball weight. I know it is not the best idea to have that much weight on the ball. But that would not be a frequent occurrence. I got the sports suspension package too so that will help.

yeah, but it's not the weight that will be on the ball,
it's the extra leverage that will transfer to/through your towbar if you mount a ball on the back of the carrier.

Out of interest, bored with a few beers under the belt.... Had a set of scales in the garage and was weighing stuff for the road bike, ANYWAY saw the bike and wondered. lifted onto the back wheel and put on the scales, 66kg with oil and fuel. Based on that you'd still have a few KG spare.

with the motorcycle carrier mounted to the towbar, and a ball on the back of that,
the leverage is at least twice as much as what is on the cars towbar
so any weight that goes onto the rear ball would basically be doubled maybe tripled ?

i'd just stick to the bike on the carrier, not a trailer having off of the carrier as well.

my IT200 weighs a touch under 100kg wet (with fuel/oil)
the XR600 weighs around 140kg odd wet, so should be just under the towball weight limit

the pitbike will be fine

I see were your coming from, maybe not such a good idea with my car, a mate did it with his 4x4 and a caravan, although I think it was a f100.

There is a 2.1 tonne hitch available but I don't want to go that far. This thing will probably only get used 10 times in its whole life.

picked up a Mo-Tow today and I'm pretty happy with it, it is nice and light weight (until the bike goes on that is) and not too wide. I will have to watch out when going through a gutter or something though as it hangs out quite a way. I have blocked between the tyre and head stem to reduce suspenion bounce. Heres a few pics....

From behind it looks like there is alot sticking out the sides but from in front and out the side mirrors there really is'nt much. my 6x10 trailer sticks out more. Will have to try it out with the pit bike on next time.

Hmmmm same as mine, but mine doesn't have that bar at the front and I tie mine to the front beams

Are you going to add lights mate? That and mount your plate on the rack or the cops will get ya!

I just got this from a builder I work for today!! Next build for me is a tow hitch mount!! Its about time I learned to weld

Yeah, hear it is,

I'd be cautious making one of these as something to learn welding on, if something went wrong its not only your bike but its other road users that need to be thought of. This one was only like 2 or 3 hundred.

Well I'd still be doing it at Craigs place...yeah thats out of my budget!

I like the fact that motow is alloy, could it be easily cut down?

You could but you'd have to somehow weld or rivet some new ends on it as the original ends are the same material as the side rails if you know what I mean. It is to stop twisting between the two rails which rum length ways.

Hmm it's probably doable with some angle on the corners. It would only be for a pitbike, no big ones.

Is that your 14/12?? My big wheel I would say is at least 70-75kgs probably more!!

No way am I buying one. now I have most of the steel I think I can get away with lights and the 2inch x 2inch chunk for under $100...will be dropping through the scrap metal place sometime in the next few days. Really sick of loading hte bike in the back of the ute, the mo-tows dont even come with lights either do they?

no they don't,
I am going to shorten the tongue that slides into my hitch as there is heaps of room between my bike and the car. It just acts as extra leverage which I don't want.

Yeah when I was looking at them I noticed it sat out a fair way from the car. Not good for stability either! If you get a chance some time can you take a photo of how it mounts at the hitch?
