Hey guy's, im new to the forum and this is my first post.

I recently purchased a pit bike so i could ride to work. I live on a rail way line between cane fields. I know the property owners so i have the all clear in that respect.

Anyways, i have riden twice now, and the ride was a little more difficult than i had originally expected.

I am 6'2, and 95 kg's, so i know i'm pushing the pit bike limit here....However, i would like some advice on modifying the bike to better suit my needs. I am more than happy it's it's power output, infact i rarely get past 3rd gear and it's more than enough...

My main problem is the wheel size, and the suspension. I have 14'' wheels both front and back, and what appears to be the standard suspension setup. I have looked at online stores aswell as Ebay ect, and i have come across lots of parts, but i don't know if they will fit, work, or even be suitable.

My front wheel gets caught in ruts very easily and become quite a handful to hang on to, and also means i have to go really slow. A couple of time i have had the front wheel come out from underneath me when going through some mud.

The front forks are about 75% (guessing) compressed when i sit on the bike, and the back spring is about %50 (again just guessing here) So it doesen't take much to bottom out, which combined with the above mentioned issues, makes riding it quite difficult, time consuming, and also tiring.

I don't know what type of bike it is so i will just put a picture up and i'm sure one of the more experienced members will recognise it. What can i do to get the bike better suited to my needs?

You picked yourself a weird one.

I'd be looking at some upside down forks (USD) 700mm-ish long. Get a 17" front wheel and changing the back spring to 1000 pound spring or whole new rear shock all togeather. That's if you want to spend the money on it (I wouldn't). It'll probily cost you more to upgrade then buy a better bike

Or save the money and get a decent jap bike. An 85cc 2-stroke bike will be enough power for you, considering you said that engine is more then good enough.

Hope this helps. Hit up DHZ:

I'm unsure as to what fits it as I havn't seen a bike like that.

Hi Mate and welcome to Miniriders.

In regards to your suspension, without spending some money and upgrading it there is not much you can do with it as they are non adjustable forks. I'm guessing your rear may be adjustable (to a degree) but without seeing it i can not comment on that.

Without knowing what you paid for it, and knowing what your intended use for it is id be more inclined to just do what your doing until its time to upgrade.

Not much, but i hope this has helped some.

Cheers,
Wayne

it have the front end washing out problem on my old bike before i changed the wheels and the new bike (tyres are way to wide) so maybe a new tyre on the front will help did with my old bike.
might be the supenstion thats making it difficult to ride but im not sure how to fix it on those forks

Yeah. The sticker kit didn't register . Haha. My bad. Still An 85cc 2 banger will do the job for less then what you spend upgrading.

a pitbike with a full frame nice yer suspention dnt look to good on it but yer as BD said a jap bike would be awsome depending on how much u want to spend

I live in Cairns the bike just has some weird US decal kit on it....Yep, weird looking bike. I've noticed most mini's are designed to resemble a smaller scale motocross style bike, yet mine looks almost like an upright style cafe racer or similiar..

I'm not sure how much i want to spend, obviously not too much. I don't want to get to the point where i've spent so much i could have got a more purposeful bike.

There are no markings on it to indicate what make/model it is. It has a Loncin engine that is all i know.

I spoke to another rider on the way home, who also had a pit bike. He said that a larger front wheel would definately help, and wouldn't cost me too much. He said the tyre would probably be worth more than the rim depending on the quality i was after.

He said it would also give me a bit more front clearance, allthough i havent got caught on anything yet so that isn't really an issue.

I've seen some spring ranging from 250 to 1200 LBS. I'm guessing the 1200 or closer to rating would be best suited for my weight? Do i have to chance the shock aswell? I know to get the most out of the swap a new shock would be required but is it nessacary to begin with?

Budget wise i would like to keep the wheel upgrade to around the $100 mark. Springs seem relatively cheap under the $50 mark so that is allright. It looks as though the swing arm design limits the wheel size i can use. There is only about 1/2 inch to play with, unless there is some type of aftermarket swing arm assembly available that allows a larger diamater wheel to be fitted.

Front forks seem to be quite pricey though. Any suggestions for a better front fork setup? I've had a bit of a look on Ebay but i couldn't find anything, but i will have look through the sale section on here awell.

I honestly don't think you'd get a 17 under the front of that? and as for a heavier rear spring, if you can post a pic of your rear shock..may help to determine weather a new spring can be fitted or not. Also can you get a rough measurement of it (length) from eye to eye (mount bolt to mount bolt) as it may be a cheaper option to buy a heavier rated shock. Shocks with 1000lb springs can be had off eBay for next to nothing (brand dependent)

First thing I'd do is change the hangers. Swapping them for a mid bend (at least) will change your seating position on it possibly improving your control?

Something like THIS would be a cheap and easy upgrade.

what is the quality of pro taper replicas compared to the real ones? anyone notice any difference?

There not replicas, there rip offs and yes the quality as you could imagine going from $149 to $50ish varies quite a bit. For what Constantly_Crashing needs them for, they will be more than fine.

Close up picture of the rear shock added. I measured apporx 1.5 inches (for the increase from 14 to 17'') around the current diamater of the front wheel and it seems there should be plenty of room there and no clearance issues.

Eye to eye is 270mm. I can allocate roughly $100 to this part of the upgrade. I've seen some spring/shcok setups but they were only rated to about 550lb..

It looks like where the spring ends is just short of the battery tray, so i would probably have to cut that tray section out (doesen't matter) so a longer spring will fit in.

I'm happy to just go ahead and buy the above mentioned item if you can confirm that i won't have any issues with that one being 5mm longer and that it will fit to my swing arm?

you wont have any issues mate with the extra 5mm. regarding the fitting, all rear shocks mount up the same so there should be no issues at all. You may by the looks have to alter the battery box but it shouldnt be too hard, maybe bend it down a little towards the front?

Considering your weight I'd get rid of the battery all together mate .... and yeah don't spend too much on it as both discs on the same side is a sure indication of low quality. Ride it and have fun till it bends or brakes and save ya coin ...you'll get something better from dhz for around a grand. And you could easily spend that on this gettin it up to scratch.
