this is how the header pipe goes:

and yea tdy that's just the tip, got worried for a second there thinking they made a major fail

I thought the straighter the pipe the better better it went and shorter was better, getting the fumes out and all .

only backwards coz it can be now there injected, 2bangers need there fat power pipes and porberly wont ever be injected

also it ,cuts half the cost of stainless pipe and half the manufacturing cost of the exhuast!

i think some one said somthing about back pressure, well a smaller diamiter pipe will do that no worries.

and heat near the rear shock, Look how close the pipes are to the rear shocks of some moto gp bikes, they dont complain!

Actually there have been EFI two strokes in the past... quite a few actually. Honda tried a 402cc twin cylinder two stroke for Paris Dakar in the early nineties.. was well ahead of it's time, and ran like a champion...
Money wont go into the development of twostroke engines, because Californian emissions laws basically strangle them, and California probably buy more two stroke dirtbikes alone, than what Australia would in a year...
As for the exhaust, the cost of manufacture would actually be a lot higher, as opposed to cheaper. Lots more bends, lots tighter bends, all would have to be mandrel bent i imagine, due to the bends, there will be more welded sections, again increasing production costs, and they wouldnt be any shorter, as fourstrokes need a certain length header to A: make power, and B: run efficiently, and given it's an EFI engine, efficiency would be high on their list, so you can pretty much bet the header length is as long as they can make it, with the space they have...
Has less to do with backpressure, as it has to do with what's called "Tuned length"... Have a look at extractors for your car... "Tuned Length" extractors are more efficient.. and will all be a certain length, to work best for that particular motor... restricting the diameter of the pipe will have adverse affects on performance, and wont solve any backpressure issues... quite the opposite actually...
as for the rear shock reservoir, jury is still out on this one... Yes road bikes have the reservoir next to the exhaust... however, they are next to mufflers generally, not header pipes, which run far hotter, and MX suspension would do several times the amount of work than what a road bike would, and would thus run hotter again...
One would hope yamaha have addressed that issue however...
