i use a one way valve on the calipers when i can ($6 brake bleeder kit)

why spend $6 when you can use a finger instead? I think the method I mentioned was basically using your finger as a bleed valve....old DH days...not $6 it was $50...

So this then bleed...sometimes you can get away with just doing this, but 5 mins takes a while when you're in a hurry!

nah they have always been around that price, just changed brand names a few times since
they are still exactly the same as they were in the 80's

the bigger vacuum ones were around $50

I do beg to differ....kids with mtbs get ripped off a lot I'm sure! The Hayes disk brake pro bleed kit is $53 can link phone won't let me! The bike shops never sold these....no room to move on price....and you're more likely to need to take your bike to the shop to get it fixed if it costs that much just for a bleed kit....sure I spent a lot of money I didn't have to on mtb stuff! Was never going to pay that for a bleed kit!

Hey stoozo, no worries mate, all the help possible is very welcome.

So, I've done sfa on the bike since Thursday, we leftt early Friday morning and went to the sunny coast for the weekend, and only just got back, but while we were passing thru brissy stopped in at a pit bike shop, and picked up some new pieces for the bikes, can't wait to put them all on! Maybe Wednesday might be the first chance I get, I have to work all day tomorrow and Tuesday, then kids are back at school Wednesday and I get a day off so will def be making the most of it!!

Yay, just ordered some new pilot jets from DHZ - hopefully get this carby running a little smoother.... I was talking to a mate, that has way more motorbike experience than I, and was telling him how the kid I baught it from had it set up for doing burn outs, and straight away he goes, so I guess the pilots in the carby are way too big then........ I was like...... OMG, how do u just know that! Hahaha! Noob Central here..... :p

so how many turns out is your mixture screw from fully closed (done up) ?
and what jet Numbers did you order

The mix screw was like 4 turns out, I ordered a #20 and a #25, there's a #35 on it at the moment.....

yeah that's right, i remember that you mentioned it early in this thread.
try the #25 first, i reckon it should be sweet with a little adjustment on the mixture screw.

Yeah, that's what I was hoping..... Just thought if I was getting one, I'd best get another just in case :)

Yay, I got stoozos shock today, put it on, amazeballs! Thanks heaps!

I also did a bit of other little things to the bike, put a new air filter on the carby, New fuel lines and filter and was trying to put a new bash plate on so I could put the old one on my boys bike, but one of the nuts won't bite.... So I'm having some lunch and thinking how I'm gonna get this nut off without making it worse.... The bike is slowly coming along, I still have to bleed the brakes, hopefully get that done this arvo.... Running out of time til school pick up time tho ;)

use some decent vise grips, and clamp them on as hard as you can.

soak the bolts' thread in wd spray before if you can.

heat also helps loosen rust

last resort use a hammer and chisel on the side of the bolt,
hive it 2 hits to dent the bolt head, then angle the chisel so it will start to undo it with the next hit.
wear safety glasses incase a chip of steel goes flying off too!

Cool, will give it a go.... Shifty little 8mm nut too!

if it is a nut, then you might be able to split it with a cold chisel and hammer ?

No probs! Went straigt on with the old bolts sweet then!! Make sure you loctite then! Tried to make a vid on bleeding brakes but ill have to get a tripod or something. Impossible to get the right camera angle! Won't be to hard its a simple enough concept...

Or drill it with an old drill bit until it heats up enough to warp the bolt a little...worked a treat on the Foxico foot pegs!

Ok, so after replacing the caliper and bleeding the brakes, the rear wheel does not spin overly freely.... I wonder if either the spacers for the rear axle are not in the right place, or the caliper/brake pads need to be adjusted somewhat. I did also notice that the brake caliper pistons seem to be pressed all the time, they don't seem to return at all..... I would really like to take the brake caliper off the bracket so I can adjust it, but just can't figure out how to get the caliper out without taking the whole wheel off..... I'm obviously missing something here....

the calipers' pistons only moves a little bit, they wont retract right back in, just a mm or so.
where the caliper sits onto the mounting bracket, there would be 2 pins that the caliper slides on, make sure they are greased to let it move freely.

is there a spacer between the caliper mounting bracket and the swingarm ?

maybe post a pic taken from behind the back of the swingarm facing forwards
