I wouldnt bother with a cdi box until youve changed the cam ive done some serious engine mods without having to change anything electrical. The jap/china engines have come along way on the ignition side by going to electric ignition and doing away with old points system .the down side of these engines is the poor quality of small cams and carbys poor port work and poorly seated valves .
My bike is a chinese 70 cc
what i have done for power gains>1.
first i started off with some port work which i did myself .I upgraded from the small carby to a 24mm mikuni the power was good but i found a big flat spot and backfire on deacceloration.
2. the next step was to organise a cam thanks to CDJ motorbikes i was suited up with a z40 cam and some valve springs .dont skimp on the valve springs as the high lift cams will crush the standard springs as they have to many coils and you will end up with sprind bind.the cam added some awsome power and with the port work an carb the bike is getting faster and heaps of good pulling power.
3. the next step was to machine the fly wheel and add an exhaust. the exhaust is a cheep one but larger in diameter i also cleaned up inside of the exhaust where it bolts up this helps with the flow onthe exhaust side and the gas flow is un interupted .
4. I brought some exhast heat wrap and pulled apart the exhaust and removed the glass wool packing .I wrapped the mesh in the exhaust twice with the heat wrap and tied wire around it soit dosent undo in the exhaust .I also heat wrapped the exhaust pipe itself from the head to tail pipe this helps keep the heat away from the head and the gear box .
END > so far im happy with the power results im able to keep up with most of my mates 88 cc kitaco modified bikes. but my size and expierience riding on these bikes still need some attention .
