I'll get on a roll and this will trun into a rant.
I am a bit of everything... see my post in the music vid thread.
There's really only two types of music... Good and bad. And they are both in all genres.
I like a lot of old school (yes kids, that's how school is spelt) punk... The Clash, The Saints. Good honest stuff where it was legitimately about the music.
Love old country.... Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and alt-country such as Gram Parsons. Dudes that sung about a bit more than my dog left me and my car broke down. Most current country is a disgrace to the genre....
Old rap... where it was about revolutionary social change and giving a voice to people that had none. Public Enemy and the like. Most current rap is sexist ******** aimed at the lowest common denominator to make a quick buck.
I'm a big fan of Aussie bands, find myself listening to them more than any other. They may not be cool but Powderfinger, You Am I, Magic Dirt, Beasts of Bourbon... bands I literally grew up with. I remember seeing Powderfinger at the Evelyn circa '93 with about 40 other people.. who knew? These bands have in effect been the soundtrack to my life.
The list is endless... Neil Young, Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, Paul Kelly, Sugarcubes/Bjork, Pixies, Buffalo Tom, Fleetwood Mac, NWA, Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Hilltop Hoods, Simon and Garfunkel, The Go-Betweens, Dixie Chicks, Black Flag/Henry Rollins, The Living End, Nick Cave, Kate Bush, The Beatles, Beastie Boys, The Easybeats, Aretha Franklin.... too many to name.
I can't pick a category... I just like music that can look me in the eye and tell me it isn't trying to ******** me. Life's too short to listen to mediocrity.
