Hi im Mitch new to mini riders just brought a new mini three weeks ago just finished running it in as directed if not better but some how 1st gear has shot it self just wondering if anyone could tell me if its hard to fix and how to do it ? any help would be great

THANKS!

firstly welcome to miniriders..

youll need to explain the problem more...
what is first gear doing or not doing...
when did you notice it shat. and what sort of riding were you doing.
when was the last oil change. have you drained the oil out of it to see what colour it is..(any metal in it)

does it feel any different to kick start or does the clutch feel any different..

just remember we cant see or experience what you can so you have to put the picture in our head

it feels like its sliping out and booting back in but it only seems to do it in first
i droped the oil when i first got the bike and put good castrol oil in ran it for a day droped the oil an put more in it was running fine till yesturday it was the 1st ride since runing it in i took it to some local trails it was all good had a small stack when i kicked the bike back over 1st started playin up.Hopfully that can help?

just pulled the oil filter out its coated in metal shavings

can you tell us exactly what oil you used?

slipping in and out of gear can be cause from worn selector fork, damaged gears or bad shift drum...

does the metal shavings look like alloy or metal?

so its not any different to kick start?

ahh.... now we getting somewhere... it seems a lot of gearbox issues happen after a stack with minis...
a common cause for this, especially after a stack, is that the gear lever is "forced" when the bike hits the ground, and it will put a large strain on the dogs, selectors and teeth on the gears themselves...

let me guess... the bike fell on the left hand (gear lever) side when you stacked??
If not, then yes, i am probably wrong, that's happened once or twice too, but if you've come down on the left hand side, it's probably forced the gearbox, and lunched first gear...

oh, and small shavings in the oil filter are pretty normal for a new motor that is being run in... unless of course those shavings are on the large side... then they would be your lunched first gear teeth...

very fine metal shavings are normal, especially in a new engine, magnetic drain plugs work really well at catching them too

i fell to the right side the shavings are only small the oil i used is castrol power 1 gps 4t 10w-40

no im a bit of a novice when it comes to 4 strokes most iv done is a top end rebuild on my 2 stroke

ok, well it may be time to start looking inside for evidence...

talk a look in the tech section there are guides for doing this...if your not comfortable with such task then i guess its time to ring a repairer for a quote....

taking the clutch case of is easy as undoing some bolts, try to get the gasket off undamaged too, take the bolts all the way out before cracking the case open about 5mm, then go around the gasket with a razor blade and make sure the gasket is unstuck from the cases. Oh yea drain your oil first.
When I snapped a tooth off my kickstart gears the tooth was just sitting there when I took the case off

i have removed the circlular cover from the clutch it all looks clean there do i have to remove the clutch and look deaper ?

can you confirm if thats your engine in the link above...and if so which part have you removed....the engine above has 2 covers on the right hand side...

ok, you have to take the the kick starter off, the clutch cable off, the oil cooler lines off(if you have one) then undo all the 8mm headed bolts surrounding the outside of the cover and slowly pull the cover off trying not to kill the gasket...
