hey zowie,
i'm guessing you are keeping the bike for a while now ?
did you want me to do a permanent delete on your For Sale thread for this bike, from December 2013 ?

This thread is Gold!!

and haha, thanks mate

so, its been an interesting few days.

the new lifan arrived from DHZ in record time, again. paid for it last friday, it arrived 930am tuesday while i was at work.

got stuck into it friday and today, removing the old engine, tidying the bike up a bit, and prepping it for the replacement motor.
you'd figure installing a replacement lifan 140,
with a lifan 140
would be a bolt in deal.
right?

WRONG......lol

the harness that came with the enging did not match up with anything on the bike...
was thinking "dammn you, DHZ, get it right"

turns out the bike is just totally wired, well, wrong.....
when i saw some of the weird un insulated crimp on plugs and bodgy taping to other joins, etc, i thought it safe to rip the seat and tank off, strip all the tape and look at the whole thing.
one of the yellow wires that come out of the old lifan, ran directly to the battery, other one ran to the rectifier as it should but then split to half way along the harness, taped to a green/hite wire, that then an to an unused plug in the headlight bucket. lucky it wasnt incorrectly connected to something in there... im guessing.

finally sorted it all out, got it running and all electrics working nice, and ran out of time.
will take her for a test ride and semi run in, tomorrow

pics to follow

nah someone has played around with the wiring on the bike

yeah apologies if it wasnt clear.
it was definitely not the DHZ wiring that came with the bike, at fault.
this bike and its previous lifan install had some issues for sure, lol

sorry for lack of pics, i cant get onto my photobucket page.
am uploading some to the BookofFace so i can put at least some up.

now some pics
apologies on the poor quality, was late and only had the phone

at this point, i had discovered the wiring issue and decided to let it breathe

just noticed in this pic, you can see one of the 'joins' of the green/white-green wire, with 2 differing connectors, that were taped over
also, one yellow wire was joined to the red, which was then fused and connected to the battery

started tidying it up, sorting it all out

sorted out the rear section of wiring, to the battery, and about to figure out the 'kill' switch at this stage.

pic of the other side, all looking neat.

ran out of time and this is about where i'm at.

will take her for a test spin, today and report back, more pics, etc

thanks for your time

sorry i havent updated in a while

i am loving it mate..!
did an oil change at 300k's since the replacement engine, and it only ticked over 700 k's this week.
will do another oil change over the weekend, check the clearances, re-tension everything again

will update with more pics when i can

ok, sounds good.
how is the engine going with kickback too ?

you mean when you kick start it and it can flog the 'ish' out of your leg?

great mate, just get her one click over TDC prior to kicking and these girls are fine

i do read that these break kickstart gears etc, but i believe its possibly from people kicking it incorrectly.(as i used to)

yeah that's it, just past TDC and take your foot off the lever once you've kicked
sounds like you have it sussed though
