Hey guys.

I highly considering getting a car & a motorbike license in SA I would buy a bike and use one of my parents cars when I would need it.

Can you guide me through the process of getting a license for a bike. What tests do I have to do? How much money will it cost?

How much $ is rego?

I'm considering getting a postie bike ct110 (yeah yeah I know they aren't that great) but they are so reliable and cheap.

I would upgrade bikes eventually. I would use a postie bike on my L's and until I could afford a better bike.

Please give me some detailed information.

thanks guys.

Hey sid, Im doing the same thing in a few months, getting a wr250f.

I had a few good websites on this, one being the Honda website, I'll see if I can find them for you, you should come and ride with us when you get your ct110! :D

road trip!!! lol.

how much are you expecting to pay for a wr?

How much can you get a second hand one for? I would rather that over a postie.

My mate recently got his bike license in SA,

from start to end the license cost him $650, that includes all fees, taxes etc,

there was a WR for $3000 recently in local rag, you just gotta becareful though cause some of these older bikes can end up costing a futune in repairs and maintenace,

Getting an 01 to 04 model for 4,000 to 5,000 and so is my mate. Ive seen THREE 02 to 03 models go for $4,000 on eBay!! So annoyed I dont have the money yet I couldve baught one. Buying mine around the start of next year.

And yeah a WR would beat a postie bike in almost every way haha.

Its gonna be awsome riding through quarries and the hundreds of trails through the adelaide hills.

Get your self a nice yz250wr, rmx250, exc200,250,300, cr250e (if you can find one). Thats where the real fun and power is, not no small 250f.

It also has to be affordable :)

+ It's a learners bike I might not have it forever.

What would I have to do to get the exc250 rego'd? Or a yz250??

I doubt you can get a yz250 registered. I said yz250wr, it was the wrf version but 2 stroke. Had the same motor used in the 01 or 02 yz250s. And the EXC is KTMs registrable 2 strokes. They stopped making the yz250wr a couple of years ago but you can still pick them up.

get a 4 stroke for the road!
easier to handle etc. along dirt, 2 bangers are awsome, but along road dad said that it's very very bad.
plus mixing oil at service stations etc. if it has an auto mixer its no problem such as one or two 250 road bike but if not u will have to carry oil (hard on a dirtbike cos no luggage holer thingy) or measurer to calculate how much u need.

a ct110 wouldn't be too bad, as sid said, cheap and reliable. i mean, if u were riding it 2 school people would laugh, lol, but it's cheap, reliable, doesn't use much fuel and since they still sell them new and there's heaps of hem, if something breaks its easy to repair.
all up, i say:
ROAD: 4 stroke!
DIRT: 2 or 4 stroke.

that's just my 2c

Im riding both onroad and off, doing alot of offroad trail riding, not riding into town, just all through the hills.

Im going a 4 stroke because they're better. :D

250 isn't the limit, but you can't get a 450.

some year 11 from school rode past naked wearing the australian flag on his postie LOL

lol no it ain't flarry.

You can get a 400 suzuki supermotard, or some 660cc korean POS.

It's power to weight ratio, not just 250 limit.

Yeah I was reading that... but thats only a few bikes. I last time I checked that was only in tasmania and one or two other states.
