yep the shorter you make the gearing the more unusable 1st will be, to the point where you just don't bother with it and start in 2nd instead, I found steep 1st gear hill climbs were easier with longer gears, it's easier to keep the front end down

it will have to be a bloody steep hill to need the old granny gear:p but good if you like to "go bush"...ie, make your own trail... trials riding:)

ok so what would be a good combination for all round use e.g track and bush just need to know sizes cause i need new sprockets either way

found a cnc alloy 1/4 turn throttle for 70 on ebay prob going to buy that. found also a new alloy rear sprocket will it make much of a difference if i go up to 43t in the rear and stay the same in the front ?? and is 33 bucks pretty good for a kmc heavy duty chain ??

I run 16/37 I like being able to use 1st and better cruising.
But if you never get to 4th then maybe 15/41 would be the way to go ??
I'm not really sure what you want now

dude $1 is a rip off for a KMC chain, they like to stretch like crazy and snap easy, go to a jap bike shop and get an RK or D.I.D. mine cost something like $40

well first gear is really short so wouldn't mind lengthening it a lil but don't really want to loose much acceleration if that makes sense. ive only found a 43t rear alloy sprocket what would be good up front if i bought that 16t or 15t or something smaller ??

Ok sweet do you know many shops in melb that would stock these chains or would most of them stock them anyway

any jap bike shop will have quality chains, but I had to shop around to find an RK.
jap shop = Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki etc.

well i got a new chain today hopefully its on its way D.I.D 420 pitch. im still deciding what to do with the sprockets after riding on the week end i want to lengthen 1st gear would there be a big difference bewtween a 37t or 39t rear sprocket going down from a 41t

sweet 37 it is im going buy a new uni filter today what size do i purchase its got a 30mm carb so i think i need a 44mm one is that right ?

messure the OD(outter diemetre) of the carbi and that has to be the ID(inner diemetre) of the carbi

Hey, with all this filter talk, I saw in a dirt bike mag some talk about "oiling the filter" this confused me. What's this all about??

I need to replace a filter and was curious.

Is this only relevant for the bigger jap bikes?

airfilters need to cleaned and re-oiled after ever ride. If you don't oil your filter it does pretty much nothing to stop dust from going straight into your engine, the oil is sticky and catches the dust.
Unless you're using one of those crappy mesh pod filters I don't think they need oil.

basically you clean your filter in turps or kerro then dry it, then rub airfilter oil into it and get it all spread around the filter evenly and squeeze out any excess oil

go sparing when applying the oil to the filter though.... it doesnt need to be dripping with oil... just a light film over the filter... too much oil, it will starve the engine for air, the engine will attempt to suck the oil into the motor as well, and as a result can run a bit rich...
