Oh i see cam pushing the valves open while i turn the cam gear.

So when the inlet valve shuts is that where i set the cam gear to 9 o'clock?

No, the pad's on the rocker arm's will be on the fat rounded part of the cam, not on the raised part (lobe)

I normally take the cam gear off the end of the cam, slip the chain onto the gear, then put the gear on the cam and tighten the 2x bolt's, while checking everything is still aligned.
I would check/adjust the valve/rocker clearance's while i was at it too, because it's already at tdc on the compression stroke anyway.

Sorry man im just not understanding.

by turning the cam gear over 360 degrees can u find out what mark on cam gear is supposed to be at 9 o'clock?

Yeah, where you need to have the cam is with the lobe's facing the engine side of the head.
So there are 2 position's the cam gear will be at when a marking is lined up to the 9 o'clock point in the head.
And when it's there, the cam either wont turn at all, or you will be able to move it back and forth without and force.
You want it at the point when it cam move back and forth.

The gear in this video can move about 100 degree's or so
If it's 180 out, like the 2nd vid then it won't move at all (beside's loose cam gear bolt's, lol) This is not where you want it when putting the timing chain on

Cam chain and fly wheel puller have arrived. Got the old cam chain out and the new one is in.

Just not sure if this cam gear is right.
In this pic it is just a bit below the marking in the case.

Ok the new cam chain is in and head is back on tight. Turning engine over and the cam chain still is still lose.

What could be making it lose?

Did you reset the tensioner before fitting it ?

Just removed from engine

Reset and ready to fit back to engine

Nah i didnt do that, i honestly didnt think it would matter.

I try resetting it

Well i done it. But when i put the spring back in it just pushes the arm out to where it was before

Heres a pic of the cam chain tensioner, it is fully extended and its not even touching the chain guide.

Yeah, the bolt and spring only get's fitted once the tensioner body is bolted to the cylinder
You've stretched the new timing chain

It may have been played around with and the person never rest the cam chain tensioner, if this has happened it would stretch the chain to it's limit's, it may have even jumped a tooth or 2 on the cam gear which will cause problem's if it has

Did you reset the tensioner before refitting it ?
eg take the centre bolt out, push the locking tab away from the toothed tensioner pusher the push the pusher back into the tensioner housing.
When it is reset the tensioner is short, not extended

Omfg fffffffffs really wow.

Just by turning it over by hand its strched.

I guess ill order another one.

To be honest i checked the old cam chain next to the new one to see the difference how streched old one was, before installing new one.
They were exactly the same lenght.

I was going to take a pic but didnt cuz i was to eager to get it back together.

For when i get the new cam chain, do i fit the reset cam chain tensioner at tdc ?

I think i should metion that the head on this engine is not a klx type. Its the crf exhaust type. Not sure if that would make a difference to the cam chain lenghts.
