the 0, that's just TDC,
i run 28° total advance measured at about 4000rpm
i read a post from Terry here a while ago that suggested it is one of the best timing setting's for a hemi head.
it gives quite a bit of low end power, and still pulls hard at WOT.
the battery i use is one from an old broken rechargable torch, you can but them new for under $20 at Jaycar etc.
but i also have a heap of old SLA batterys
why take it out, just check you timing with the bike next to the car. connect up the leads.
otherwise you could power it off and old 12v AC/DC power supply plug pack,
cut the socket of the plug pack lead, strip the wires back, and put your leads from the timing light to the leads off the power supply
you can even use an old computer power supply etc etc
